From experiencing the end of another day on the White Isle whilst overlooking Es Vedra to enjoying the beginning of the night ahead at Café Mambo or Café del Mar, a sunset in Ibiza is truly iconic.
From May to October, thousands and thousands of people flock to the west coast of the island every night to experience this ritual. Often backed by world-renowned DJs and accompanied by incredible drinks and dishes, there’s a level of emotional attachment to the sun setting on this magical island that can’t quite be explained, only known deep down within.
In the quieter months, you’ll be pleased to know that the sunset ritual never fades, but there are a couple of things that are a little different.
Apart from the obvious time difference between a summer sunset and a winter one, which can range from 5:30pm - 9:30pm, you’ll find that you can often get a private showing due to the non-existent crowds.
You may also discover that out-of-season sunsets can be more intense and even more beautiful, due to the sun sitting so low on the horizon.
So, if you’re looking for the best out-of-season sunset spots in Ibiza, here are my recommendations.
Es Vedra
It’s one of the most popular spots all year round, and it’s easy to see why. Whether you believe the urban myths that surround this magnificent rock or not, a sunset from any of the viewpoints is truly second to none.
You can see Es Vedra and the sunset from various points along the coast, from the beach of Cala d’Hort to the viewpoint nearby, as well as Cap Llentrisca and the famous Torre des Savinar.
Cap des Falco
If you want to stay closer to sea level, head towards Salinas and through the salt flats to Experimental Beach. Though the beach club itself closes through winter, this is the perfect place to watch the sun go down from October through to March.
Cala Llonga
If you are on the island around the winter solstice, set aside time to hike to the top of Ses Torrettes from Cala Llonga for sunset.
Not only will you feel amazing for the exercise, but you’ll be able to experience the most incredible winter sunset, seeing the sun dip into the sea with views of Roca Lisa, Ibiza Town and even across to Formentera if the day is clear.
Winter sunsets in Ibiza are incredible, something I think that everyone should experience. I’d love to know where your favourite sunset spot on the island is - let me know in the comments and I will make sure to explore and check them out!
